Outline
The tournament is for school teams consisting of up to 4 students.
A team must be accompanied by a teacher capable of acting as a juror at the tournament.
A team may be less than four but must be able to present solutions to at least three chosen problems.
The winning school becomes the Australian Team for IYPT. One or more individuals from another team will be invited to join the Australian Team consisting of five students.

The tournament consists of three rounds of Physics Fights with the top three teams progressing to a Final.

They have been accepted by IYPT as IMO until 2029.
The IMO organises the qualifying tournament for the selection of the Australian Team.
